“Do I have a problem?” Answering this question is the first step towards recovery and better health. While it is the most difficult question to answer, it isn’t the last. There are many others you’ll need to address, such as, “How will I pay for treatment?” or “What are my treatment options?” One of the most common questions is “How long does an intensive outpatient program last?”

The length of an IOP program varies from a few weeks to up to a year. The recommended minimum duration of intensive outpatient treatment is 90 days.  However, the length of the program is dependent on the patient. Since no two people are the same, no two treatment plans are the same. Some patients require a little more therapy depending on their experiences, personality, background and diagnosis.

During this time, the patient’s personal recovery program will entail the following IOP steps:

  • Enter Treatment
  • Assessment
  • Therapy Sessions
  • Motivation Identification
  • Family/Loved Ones Participation
  • Evaluation

In the early stages of treatment, sessions will be scheduled daily and then transitioned to a several days a week for 2-4 hours a day. These outpatient programs are often scheduled around work or school, to give you the opportunity for treatment while still living at home and going to school or to work.

Outpatient sessions are typically 90 minutes long. Sometimes sessions are scheduled back-to-back with group work comprised of other members in the same recovery stage. Sessions range from individual counseling and family therapy to lectures and questions.

Our programs at Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare are focused on your individual needs and treatment. Our goal is to help you succeed in your recovery. If you still have questions about our IOP sessions, please contact us today and learn how we can help you.
